“Tribe-Time: We Can All Benefit. It’s a Unity in Our Commonality Kind of Thing”

Have you noticed how the word tribe is becoming part of daily conversation in urban to business speak?

Tribe:
a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader. synonyms: ethnic group, people, band, nation.

The emotional surge behind this societal wave is to seek, reach out beyond our boundaries, and discover our own special, unique tribe, uniting us to a sense of commonality and community, and ease this sense of isolation and loneliness that’s become pandemic in an over-communicating world.  A strange conundrum. Our world is growing exponentially. It is essential to feel part of something beyond ourselves, larger than who we are. It’s been proven we are happier, healthier beings when we are. We live into our elder years with grace and wisdom when part of a greater dynamic.

Here’s the question; have you thought about it? Your tribe? Is it something you seek? Could it add a greater sense of fulfillment to your story, your world? And if so, what kind of tribe do you seek?

What who where is your special tribe? The tribe that is your best mirror, support and best buddy-pals that understand who you truly are?

Pertinent questions to put forth are:

1. Do I want to be part of a tribe?

2. Who best represents me?

3. Are they just my best friends?

4. Is my tribe the forest, earth and animals? (It can be just as valuable and awe-inspiring, motivating and inclusive.)

5. What are the most important elements in a group, the tribe I seek?

Values, size, demographics, proximity, sex, language, beliefs, politics, age, morals, religion, spirituality,  culture, goals, family, friendships, ethnicity, support, community, sports, experiences, diversity, knowledge, wisdom.

6. How to find and connect?

I know this great guy. I asked him if he felt he was part of any kind of tribe. He had to ponder. He has multiple friends from various decades going back to high school, however in asking him, he didn’t feel he was really part of any of their tribes because his beliefs were different, his way of dealing with the world was through another lens, even when they’d been good friends throughout their multiple phases, adventures and personal relationships. They’d always had fun, laughed and partied, and were incredible athletes and musicians sharing experiences. In my opinion, that in itself is tribal, a band of decade-traversing brothers. Its’s just a different version.

Does the story of Kokopelli ring any bells? Kokopelli is a mythological character I believe is based on real stories. He was a traveling salesman of sorts, a minstrel, flute player, storyteller, a ladies man having women in every village from Central America to the Southwest, a bringer of good tidings. Every community was thrilled to have him stop, share wild tales, trade valuable and needed goods, bring news of the tribes and of course contribute his seed to further the possibility of a baby Kokopelli gracing their circle. He was part of the larger tribe without really being part of one. Much like my friend.

There are multiple threads, stories and tribes. No one way is The way.

I’ve thought about it personally. What are the most valuable attributes I consider indicative of fellow tribal members? First of all, I feel I’m part of multiple tribes representing various aspects and personality archetypes. They’re supportive. Comedic. Visionary. Insightful. Creative. Builders. Doers. Athletic. See life through a much larger lens. Thinkers. Inventors. Historians. Wise. Deep. Intuitive. Multitalented and multidimensional. Are of service to themselves and the world. Loving life is essential.

I would invite you to create your own list. I’m glad I did. It really puts in black and white, exactly who and what I love. It really identifies exactly what is internally important, to support the inner me, you, us. The next step is to reach out, connect, communicate. Those already in your tribe-circle, let them know how much you value their energy in your life. Show appreciation. If you desire more, then it’s time to step up, reach out, join meet-up groups, community social media chat circles, bowling clubs. In creating a greater connection to who we are, we are happy. When we are happy, we share that goodness.

To our special tribes.  In truth, we are really part of multiple tribes that all merge into one human tribe. Even in our diversity. That’s what makes us rich.

Thank you for being part of mine, just by reading this. To making magic.

Cosmic sunshine to you.

    • Appreciate you reading. Thank you. Yes I have really cool people in my life; I am fortunate. He does have a certain kind of tribe, one that’s worked for him. Maybe now, I’m thinking he’s ready to expand his wingspan a bit and branch into broader tribal territory. 😎 Sending hugs from the NW to the Northern Cold of Canada.
