“The Best Advice from Mr. Mountain Man”

17751D53-389C-4215-9CC7-805393010AABI have this friend. I’ve known him since junior high. We have skied together throughout the decades, sharing life stories. He’s unique. He has this amazing capacity to be totally present, has a strength of moral character and integrity that’s rare and an optimism that prevails daily. His attitude is “Well, what’s the prob? Just go do it.” And he does. He Nordic skis to the top of Hoodoo Ski Bowl here in Oregon every morning he’s home, then downhill skis the rest of the day. He will bike fifty miles afterwards. He’s an animal. He tunes skis at night and volunteers his ski-tuning skills for local ski teams. A philanthropist too.

One of his life mottos has been to ask older people for their advice and wisdom. He listens and learns, ingesting their recommendations, becoming friends along the way. This is brilliant. He actually has an old-timer feel to him from absorbing their wisdom along the road.  His desire is to become one of those elderly wise men in their 80’s and 90’s and into his 100’s who help, teach and share rare and rich life pearls. He’ll do it too.

Here’s the bigger piece on Mr Mountain Man. It’s the staying totally within his sphere, his light of influence, seeing only the best in the world around him that’s unique. He sees the good everywhere and laughs at life’s absurdities. A simple yet incredibly effective formula. And because this is his perception, it’s the world he creates. A flipping brilliant strategy. He knows no strangers; everyone loves him.

Mr. Mountain Man has never read The Secret or the Law of Attraction yet he abides by their premises in his direct approach to life, its simplicity and his sheer optimism. He doesn’t over-complicate the situation and openly loves his family and friends. He loves life.

We all need a Mountain Man in our lives to remind us of how easy and smooth and happy life can be when we literally make it happen. Just do it! Focus on the good in life. Keep the pace going or start something new. Ratchet it up a notch and push ourselves further faster harder because it feels good.

And so I did. I skied my ass off and the coconut ice cream I had the night before.

Here’s to further faster harder. Oh yeah- all with the positive zen-happy Mr Mountain Man attitude.
